Charles F. Sands, Captain's Clerk, USN, (in service, 1848)

Charles F. Sands served as Captain's Clerk on board the U.S. Brig Porpoise during a cruise off west Africa in 1848. While so employed he kept a journal that included many sketches of shipboard activities and local scenery.
