Part II-C: "Statue of Liberty" type folders with
ORANGE-TAN covers. The following images show the covers of
Souvenir Folders concerning the World War I era U.S. Navy transports
Matsonia, Mount Vernon and Sierra. Links to the
individual photographs they contain are also provided, generally
listed in the order they appear in the folder. Note that the Mount
Vernon folder features views concerning the ships'
5 September 1919 torpedoing, rather than the usual routine
shipboard scenes.
In addition, this section includes listings of the photographs
from orange-tan cover Souvenir Folders for the transports Henderson and Walter
A. Luckenbach and a link to a photograph from an orange-tan
colored Souvenir Folder concerning the transport Powhatan. Except for the image cited here, showing
a ship which is NOT Powhatan, and the cover, the latter
folder duplicates the green-gray cover Powhatan folder
presented below.

Two other images in this folder are represented elsewhere in the Online Library. One of these is Photo # NH 11, which is actually a photograph of USS F.J. Luckenbach (ID # 2160), a ship somewhat different in appearance from USS Walter A. Luckenbach. The other is Photo # NH 103967. The latter view is identified as a gun on USS Von Steuben (ID # 3017), which appears to be a more credible location for the gun than does USS Walter A. Luckenbach. We have another folder for this ship, identical to that seen on the page "Souvenir Folders" -- Part II except that its cover is ORANGE-TAN (instead of GREEN-GRAY) and its ship photograph is different. The ship photo in the second photo has Photo # NH 103952. It does not show Powhatan, but rather a freighter of very different appearance. |
