The Allied Fleet in Sagami Wan and Tokyo Bay, 27 August - 2 September, Part II.

This page presents views of and on board individual U.S. warships in Sagami Wan and Tokyo Bay through 2 September, when the Japanese formal surrender took place. Allied warships initially entered Sagami Wan on 27 August. Tokyo Bay was first entered over the following two days.

Anchored in Sagami Wan or Tokyo Bay, Japan, with other units of the U.S. Third Fleet, 30 August 1945. Mount Fujiyama is faintly visible in the distance.
Missouri is flying Admiral William F. Halsey's four-star flag.

USS Archerfish (SS-311)


Ship's crew pose on board, while she was alongside USS Proteus (AS-19) in Tokyo Bay, 1 September 1945.
Men in the front row are holding Archerfish's battleflag, which features her insignia in its center. The insignia is also painted on the large circular plaque held up below the superstructure railing in the background.
