Served as USS Absaroka (ID # 2581) in 1918-1919

Absaroka, a 5568 gross ton freighter, was built at Seattle, Washington, in 1917. She was chartered by the Navy in September 1918 and placed in commission as USS Absaroka (ID # 2581). Serving as a unit of the Naval Overseas Transportation Service, she made two voyages across the Atlantic to European waters, the first in October 1918. Her second trip ended in New York in February 1919, and Absaroka was decommissioned and returned to the U.S. Shipping Board in early March.
