Bailey (American Barge, 1896).
Served in the U.S. Navy as Bailey (ID # 2370) and as Coal Barge # 418, circa 1918-1919

Bailey, a 349 gross ton wooden barge, was built at Elkton, Maryland, in 1896. On 6 March 1918, while owned by R.W. Hudgins & Son of Norfolk, Virginia, she was inspected by the Fifth Naval District for possible Navy service and assigned the registry ID # 2370. Bailey was ordered taken over in May 1918 and presumably entered Navy service at about that time. Reportedly later renamed Coal Barge # 418, she was out of service by the beginning of October 1919.

This page features our only view of the barge Bailey, which became the U.S. Navy's Coal Barge # 418.
