Later USS Canary (AMc-25 and YDT-7), 1941-1948

John G. Murley, a moderate-size fishing vessel, was built in 1939. She was acquired by the Navy in October 1940, converted into a minesweeper, and placed in service as USS Canary (AMc-25) in June 1941. Following service in the U.S. central Atlantic coastal region, in January 1944 she was reclassified YDT-7 for employment as a diving tender with the Fifth Naval District. She was transferred to the U.S. Maritime Commission in June 1948.

This page features our only view of the fishing vessel John G. Murley, which was later USS Canary (AMc-25 and YDT-7).
