Duque de Caxias, a 11,130-ton (displacement) transport, was built in 1918 as the commercial passenger liner Orizaba. She served in both World Wars as USS Orizaba (ID # 1536 and AP-24). Transferred to Brazil under Lend-Lease, she was recommissioned as a Brazilian Navy ship in July 1945. Though badly damaged by fire a year later, Duque de Caxias was repaired and served as a transport and training ship until 1960.
This page features some of the views we have concerning the Brazilian transport Duque de Caxias, which was previously USS Orizaba (AP-24).
