-- SHIPS of the BRITISH NAVY --
HMS Erin (Battleship, 1914-1922)
HMS Erin, a 22,780-ton battleship, was built at Barrow-in-Furness,
England. She was laid down in August 1911 to the order of the
Turkish Navy and launched in September 1913 as Reshadieh.
The ship was nearly complete when the outbreak of World War I
in early August 1914 prompted the British Government to seize
her for addition to the Royal Navy. Renamed Erin, she joined
the Grand Fleet in September 1914 and served for the next four
years in the North Sea. She took part in the Battle of Jutland
in late May 1916, emerging undamaged and with no casulaties among
her crew. In 1919, after the fighting had ended, Erin was
placed in reserve. She was sold for scrapping in late 1922.
This page features all the views we have concerning the
British battleship Erin of 1914.

support duties. The one furthest right may be HMS Algiers
(formerly HMS Triumph of 1873). That at the far left,
with two smokestacks closely spaced side-by-side, may be HMS
Mars of 1897.
