USS Absegami (SP-371), 1917-1918.
Originally the Civilian Motor Boat Absegami
Absegami, a 75-foot motor boat, was built at New York
City in 1916 as a civilian pleasure craft. She was leased by the
Navy in early May 1917, a few days after being commissioned as
USS Absegami (SP-371). During World War I, she was employed
on patrol duties in vicinity of Delaware Bay and Cape May, New
Jersey. Absegami was decommissioned and returned to her
owner in early December 1918.

Absegami (U.S. Motor Boat, 1916)
Photographed circa 1916-1917. Formally acquired by the Navy on
2 May 1917, this craft was reported commissioned for World War
I patrol duty a few days earlier, on 30 April. She served as
USS Absegami (SP-371) and was returned to her owner on
6 December 1918.

Absegami (U.S. Motor Boat, 1916)
Photographed circa 1916-1917. Reportedly commissioned by the
Navy on 30 April 1917 as USS Absegami (SP-371), she was
formally acquired a few days later, on 2 May. Following World
War I service, she was returned to her owner on 6 December 1918.
The original photograph is in Record Group 19-LCM in the National
Archives.
