USS Broad Arrow (ID # 2503), 1918-1919.
Originally, and later, S.S. Broad Arrow (American Tanker, 1918)

USS Broad Arrow, a 17,862-ton (displacement) oiler, was launched at Camden, New Jersey, in late 1917 as the 7796 gross ton commercial tanker of the same name. She was taken over by the Navy in mid-March 1918 and placed in commission a few days later. During the next eleven months Broad Arrow was assigned to the Naval Overseas Transportation Service, carrying fuel and other cargo between the United States and France. She was returned to her owner, the Standard Transportation Company, in late February 1919.

Photographed 27 March 1918, soon after entering Navy service.
Built by the New York Shipbuilding Company at Camden, New Jersey, the Standard Transportation Company tanker Broad Arrow was launched on 22 December 1917. She was acquired by the Navy on 12 March 1918 and placed in commission several days later. Following service with the Naval Overseas Transportation Service, on 24 February 1919 she was decommissioned and returned to her owner.
