USS Hudson (1826-1844)

Liberator, a 1728-ton 44-gun frigate built for Greek revolutionaries, was launched in November 1825 at New York City. The next year, when her intended owners could not pay for her, the ship's builders prevailed on the U.S. Government to purchase her for the U.S. Navy. Commissioned as USS Hudson, she made one deployment, beginning in September 1828, as flagship of the Brazil Squadron. The frigate operated in the south Atlantic for nearly three years, returning home in early August 1831. Thereafter used as a receiving ship at New York, USS Hudson was broken up in 1844.

This page features our only view of the U.S. Frigate Hudson.
