USS Montauk (SP-1213), 1917-1920.
Originally the Civilian tug Luckenbach # 3

USS Montauk, a 434 gross ton tug built in 1899 at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, operated prior to World War I as the civilian tug Luckenbach # 3. She was purchased by the Navy in October 1917 and placed in commission as USS Montauk (SP-1213). For the rest of the "Great War" and during nearly all of 1919, she served in the New York City region. Photographic evidence also shows that she visited Bermuda in mid-1919. Decommissioned in December 1919, Montauk was sold in May 1920.

This page features the only views we have concerning USS Montauk (SP-1213) and the civilian tug Luckenbach # 3.
