USS Tranquillity, a 15,400-ton Haven class hospital ship, was built at Chester, Pennsylvania. Commissioned in April 1945, she sailed for the Pacific a few months later. In early August 1945, Tranquillity carried survivors of the sunken cruiser USS Indianapolis from the Palaus to Guam. In the early Post-War months, she brought veterans of the Pacific campaigns back to the United States. For that employment, she was temporarily reclassified APH-114 in November 1945-March 1946. Tranquillity decommissioned in July 1946, and remained inactive until struck from the Navy list on 1 September 1961.
