Barge YC-66 (1902-1929).
Originally named Coal Barge # 66
Coal Barge Number 66, a 250-ton (capacity) open lighter,
was built at the Norfolk Navy Yard, Virginia, in 1902. By 1909
she had been assigned to the Naval Station at Guantanamo Bay,
Cuba, and at some point before 1916 was refitted as a berthing
barge to support surveying operations along the coast of Cuba.
Renamed YC-66 in 1920, she continued to provide living
quarters for officers and men conducting surveys in Cuban waters,
operating at least some of the time with USS Hannibal
(AG-1). In December 1929 YC-66 was transferred to the
Sea Scouts.
This page features all the views we have concerning the
U.S. Navy barge YC-66, which was originally named Coal
Barge # 66.
